Authors may tell you how characters seem to spring to life independently. This happened with Chrysalis (AKA Chryssie), whom I first met in a short story I wrote for my blog. I named her Chrysalis because I wanted to incorporate the symbolism of a caterpillar and a butterfly into the story. And since a chrysalis is another name for a cocoon, I thought that would be a great name.
The short story transformed itself into a novella, eventually named Broken Trust because of some serious trust issues I discovered that Chryssie has.
Chryssie is working hard to transform her life so she can make a better life for herself. To make ends meet, she works in a bar but goes by the name Glitter—another transformation.
When she witnesses a murder, she knows the right thing to do. But doing the right thing isn’t always easy and, in this case, it will interfere with her goal to become a nurse. So once again, she chooses the easy way out which wreaks all kind of havoc in her life.
Just as in real life, one bad decision leads to another and another and another. Before we know it, we’re so far off the path that we don’t even know the way to get back. That’s what happens to Chryssie as well. She goes to the one person she thinks she can trust and…
I don’t want to ruin the story for you, but believe me when I say there’s lots of surprises and action in the story as well as some sweet moments that might just make you need a tissue.
To celebrate the release of BROKEN TRUST, I’m giving away Amazon Gift Cards. All you have to do is hop over to my blog, Tiaras & Tennis Shoes at www.lillian-duncan.com and leave a comment under one of the Broken Trust posts and you’re entered. Easy Peasy!
