Writers, people may be telling you to first of all have a website, and secondly put a blog on the website.
But regular blog posts are hard to keep up.
Let’s say you manage to post to your new blog regularly (at least twice a week at first) for a while, and then assess your stats for the website. All that work just doesn’t seem to be doing any good. You are tempted to quit blogging.
Here’s why you should keep going.
You want to pull people in your industry to your blog with great content and advice that is helpful to them. You want people to come to know you and trust you and, when the time is right, buy from you. Of course what you don’t do is sell, sell, sell: then you come off as a telemarketer, interrupting dinner. You won’t get through.
Here’s the thing about a blog. Each article you put on the blog stays there, with links, as long as you have the blog. Searchers can find it with search terms. It’s the gift that keeps on giving, unlike, for example, an ad you might put in a magazine.
Furthermore, the search engines will start boosting your website in their search rankings, the more regularly you blog and the more people you are drawing to your blog. So someone looking for info on one of your topics will be able to find it over the thousands of other web pages that have the same keyword.
So, keep on blogging!
