Continuing our stroll through the list of fiction genres, today we are taking a more in-depth look at Chick Lit. This is a newer addition to the list of genres, and became popular in the 1990s. So for those of you familiar with the more traditional genres, I’d like to add the definition from my List of Genre Descriptions a couple of weeks ago:
CHICK LIT
Light, amusing stories about the type of issues an average female deals with: romance, career, family, friends, etc. The key element is the humorous way the protagonist deals with whatever the plot brings her way.
Christian Lit
Fantasy Lit
Glamour Lit
Hen Lit
Mommy Lit
Single City Girl Lit
Wedding Lit
Working Girl Lit
If you haven’t tried Chick Lit yet, why not give it a try this week? Choose several of the sub-genres above, visit your favorite on-line bookstore, and do a search for each. Once you have a list of books (or authors) that sound good, take a trip to your local library and check out a few. You never know, you may end up making an addition to your list of favorite genres.
Please join us for more discussion about genres on the Castle Gate Press Facebook Page. This week we will be posting information about our first BOOK GIVE-AWAY, so don’t miss it!
