You’ve heard of writing prompts, now we have revision prompts! Each prompt will give you a specific writing issue to check for in your WIP, along with tips on how to fix each. Going through this process one issue at a time will not only help polish your current novel but will also teach you specific ways to improve your writing for your next story.
SENTENCE SPACING: Years ago, the rule was to put two spaces between sentences. The current rule, however, is to use only one space.
FIX: Thankfully, this is an easy fix with the Find and Replace feature of Microsoft Word:
Step 1) In your document, press the control key and the “f” key at the same time.
Step 2) At the cursor, insert two spaces. This will search for every place where two spaces appears.
Step 3) Right above the box you just typed in, click on the “Replace” tab. In the box that pops up, next to “Replace With,” enter one space.
Step 4) In the line of buttons along the bottom of the find box, click on “Replace All.”
Voila! Every instance of two spaces is replaced with only one space.
