On Fridays we plan to discuss or deliver flash fiction for your reading pleasure.
What is flash fiction? It’s a complete story of 1000 words or less, the shorter the better.
Flash fiction should contain a “grabber” at the beginning, along with compelling characters placed into conflict situations that are resolved to the satisfaction of the reader. Same as a novel! But much shorter, of course. For a novelist, it’s quite a challenge to distill the elements of story into so short a space.
It might even be possible to distill them into the space of 140 characters, the length of a Twitter post. Here’s one of those I’ve heard of: “For sale: baby shoes, never used.”
We’ll be having regular contests to determine winners who will be published on our blog. So, writers out there, get your thinking caps on. If you have a mind to send us one, email flashfiction “at” castlegatepress.com.
